    Shelby’s Pre-Show Checklist: May

Brelby has some exciting projects in the works this summer…and while we’re not ready to announce them all just yet, we do have a lot of action taking place at The Playhouse throughout the month of May.  We’re deep into rehearsals for the Arizona premiere of Fly By Night, a beautiful new musical that received it’s New York premiere at Playwrights Horizons in 2014. The sweet story follows Harold McClam, an average sandwich maker and aspiring musician and the two sisters (Daphne and Miriam) with whom his life is soon intertwined. Set amongst the historic Northeast blackout of 1965, the show explores love, loss, light and darkness…and the way that…

    Shelby’s Pre-Show Checklist: November

Ah, November. The holiday season is upon us. Glendale Glitters is just around the corner. The weather is cooling down. (Although in Phoenix…perhaps not as quickly as we’d like it to.) November is a month dedicated to giving thanks and to remembering the positive things in our lives. I don’t know about you, but I have quite a list. While the holiday season is picking up, Brelby is settling in for a steady but less hectic couple of months. Our summer season was jampacked with epic productions, moving days, painting sessions, and big transitions. We’re settled in to our beautiful new Playhouse, and we have our eyes on working towards our…

    Shelby’s Pre-Show Checklist: October

Results May Vary, Ghost the Musical and The Sun God’s Coin all continue their performances in October. Be sure to catch the latter two before they close. They’ve been getting wonderful audience responses, and you don’t want to miss out on the experience of witnessing these pieces. We also have our next round of auditions coming up the first weekend in November…so come on out for the chance to be a part of Peter and the Starcatcher, Blacklisters, and The 25th Annual…

    Shelby’s Pre-Show Checklist: August

Happy August, my dear readers. We’ve been working hard at the Brelby Playhouse this summer in preparation for our slated opening in September…and presenting some wonderful events until we complete the permit process with the City of Glendale. August 1st at 7:00PM – First up? This month is kicking off with the annual ariZoni Awards of Theatre Excellence Reading of the Nominations. I’ve been honored to join the board for this organization, and am working together with former Brelby Collaborative Artist Rebecca Weinstein as the organization plans this year’s ceremony. All artists in our community are invited to join us for the ariZoni Reading of the Nominations on August…

    Shelby’s Pre-Show Checklist: July

We’re officially all moved in. All of our belongings now reside at The Brelby Playhouse. Just in the off chance that you’ve been on vacation for the last few months…here’s the big news. Brelby Theatre Company purchased a building and moved to Catlin Court. Our new venue is located at 7154 N 58th Dr. Glendale, AZ 85301. We’re hard at work getting things ready for our grand opening in September when we open the Arizona premiere of Ghost the musical. It’ll be our 50th production, and the cast is incredible. You can purchase your tickets now…which might not be a bad idea. They’re already disappearing. Our cast for The Oz…

    Shelby’s Preshow Checklist: June

“Everything has to come to an end, sometime.” –L. Frank Baum, The Marvelous Land of Oz I don’t think that endings are inherently sad…especially when they lead to exciting new beginnings. Brelby is currently preparing to say goodbye to the storefront studio that helped us grow exponentially, allowed us to transform into a new works incubator, and provided a venue for us to welcome so many amazing members of our artistic family. June is our last month performing in this space that holds some of my most cherished theatrical memories. Battling dragons in She Kills Monsters, celebrating sisterhood in Little Women and Fangirl, fighting for love and survival in Windfall…and so many more. We’re infinitely…

    Shelby’s Pre-Show Checklist – May

May is here! The sun is shining, birds are singing…and we’re about to see the world crumble. The second installment of our 2016 Studio Series, Paco Jose Madden’s Postcards from the Apocalypse opens this month. The show weaves together vignettes from seven different apocalyptic tropes into one entertaining evening of theatre. I’ve been looking forward to this show ever since performing the teaser with Devon at last year’s season reveal. Postcards has been one of those rare opportunities for me to sit back and watch my artists create something without my involvement, and I’m incredibly proud of the work that they’ve been doing so far. A stellar cast, a great directing team,…

    Shelby’s Pre-Show Checklist – April

April is busy month at the Brelby Studio. We’re welcoming Spring with a full month of theatre in Historic Downtown Glendale. The 3rd Annual Brelby Miscast Concert Let me get right to the point…tonight we open the 3rd Annual Brelby Miscast Concert. It’s a production filled with artists performing roles that they wouldn’t traditionally be cast in, and it’s become a favorite tradition for many of our actors. We have a cast of 24, and they’re all stellar. Come out this weekend to catch one of three performances, and hear songs from Heathers, Grease, West Side Story, Matilda and more. Get your Tickets HERE. #miscastsneakpeek #heybigspender A video posted by…

    Shelby’s Pre-Show Checklist – March

March has arrived, and we’re hard at work over at the Brelby studio…so I’m here to bring you this month’s pre-show checklist! (Only one day late…due to an unexpected bout of vertigo.) This weekend you can catch the final three performances of missing grace, by resident artist John Perovich. The show is getting great reception from audiences, and is an incredibly strong start to our 2016 Studio Series. Check out two of our stellar reviews from local bloggers and members of the AZ theatre community here and here. We’re also preparing to open the first in our 2016 TYA (Theatre for Young Audiences) series, Kirt Shineman’s Sea Fairies. This undersea…

    Shelby’s Pre-Show Checklist: February

February is here and you know what that mean? In Glendale…it means…CHOCOLATE. The annual Glendale Chocolate Affair is coming up this weekend (Feb 5th 5pm-10pm, Feb 6th 10am-10pm, Feb 7th Noon-5pm). Our Season 8 opener, Windfall, has had two great weekends of shows already, and you still have two weekends to catch the high energy dark comedy. Audiences have been raving, (I’m not just saying that because I’m married to the playwright) and it’s been a great way to kick off a new season. Look at those smiling faces…aren’t you just itching to #comedowntothetown for the Glendale Chocolate Affair and to see Windfall? It’s the perfect date night! Also opening…
