It’s that time of year again!! That time when we give the blog over to our immensely talented artists and let them share their thoughts about art, life and more. The November Blogathon has become a Brelby tradition here at the Brelby Buzz, and this year we’re wrapping up Season Nine with our favorite Brelby Moments. For the next 30 days, our artists will discuss their favorite Brelby Moments from Season Nine and how that has impacted them and the way they approach their art.
Company Member, Bertha Cortes, shares her Brelby Moment and reminds us to take chances.
My Brelby Moment
This year I promised myself that I would go back to doing what I used to love the most, acting. Since I graduated High School I haven’t had the courage to put myself out there. Auditioning had become the most terrifying thing ever and in college I avoided it. I knew that as a theatre educator, this had to stop. So I signed up for an audition at Brelby then I got a callback! After that I had the privilege of being cast as Phoebe in unexpected. Being in that show was challenging and pushed me to once again put myself out there. I was lucky enough to have a wonderful director who guided me through all of my self doubt. I’m not completely comfortable with auditioning and acting as I once was but I think I will get there. I have to keep pushing and know that I cannot get better at acting if I do not audition. Whether I get cast in things or not, each experience will get me closer to bettering my craft. I am thankful for Brelby and everything they have done for me. I would not be the artist I am today without them.
Thanks for taking the chance and auditioning Bertha! You were a lovely Phoebe and we can’t wait to see more from you! For more from our artists, check in tomorrow as the November Blogathon continues!
