My Brelby Moment: Debra Lyman

It’s that time of year again!! That time when we give the blog over to our immensely talented artists and let them share their thoughts about art, life and more. The November Blogathon has become a Brelby tradition here at the Brelby Buzz, and this year we’re wrapping up Season Nine with our favorite Brelby Moments. For the next 30 days, our artists will discuss their favorite Brelby Moments from Season Nine and how that has impacted them and the way they approach their art.

Brelby Theatre Collaborative Artist, Debra Lyman, seen on our stage in Whisper Sweetly, discusses her love of original theatre and all the amazing benefits of producing new plays.

My Brelby Moment

By Debra Lyman

There were several mighty moments in Brelby 2017 season for me. But my pure enjoyment of being involved in Whisper Sweetly by Devon Mahon is something that impacted me personally and my desire to support Brelby and its concept. I adore New Works, quirky Theatre, and Realism. Devon’s play was definitely New, very quirky and had realism concepts… the coffee?  I understood after WS and working with Brelby, Devon, John Perovich, the talented, special cast, and every designer, technical peep, and James Beneze, our stage manager, that Brelby supports this kind of thing in theatre – new and opportunity. Its this collective, collaborative process that invites challenging yourself, and call to  ‘come on in and try it’ whatever you are, or love in theatre. The idea that Devon in his creative dreams, thought process, imagination and desire to bring more knowledge about Daylight Savings Time (DST) to his audience [wink], in turn, created this piece of dramatic, crazy good art I had the opportunity to be involved in, learn, and stretch more inspired me very much.  By the way Sunday 11/5 is DST “Fall Back” Day for everyone  – – except Arizona. You can all rest and smile.

Smile indeed. Thanks for reminding us to Fall Back today Debra! The Blogathon fun continues tomorrow!
