My Brelby Moment: Ricco Machado-Torres

It’s that time of year again!! That time when we give the blog over to our immensely talented artists and let them share their thoughts about art, life and more. The November Blogathon has become a Brelby tradition here at the Brelby Buzz, and this year we’re wrapping up Season Nine with our favorite Brelby Moments. For the next 30 days, our artists will discuss their favorite Brelby Moments from Season Nine and how that has impacted them and the way they approach their art.

Today’s piece comes to us from Ricco Machado-Torres, who was portrayed Charlito “Chip” Tolentino in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, as well as appearing in the Arizona Premiere of Dogfight. Ricco is also on Brelby’s resident improve team, Results May Vary!

My Brelby Moment

By Ricco Machado-Torres

The moment that impacted me most in this Brelby Season was the closing performance of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. I had never worked with a more honest, funny, and giving group of people. That was also a special show to me not only because of the cast but it was also my first time having solos so it was a huge growing experience for me. All of the emotions built up throughout the show and during the finale, I hugged everyone close and tried to fight back tears to no avail! Our #WordFam continues to stay in touch months after the show has closed. That experience to me signifies what Brelby is all about. Relationships among ourselves and the intimate setting allows us to share that closeness and connection with the audience which is the best way to experience art both as a performer and a spectator. Working on Putnam is a highlight of my career and one that I will never forget.

Thanks for growing with us, Ricco! Tune in tomorrow for more Blogathon action!
