For the rest of November, every day, the Brelby Buzz will be bringing you the second installment of the November Blogathon. Thirty days, thirty original posts from Brelby’s Company Members and collaborative artists of Season 8. Each post will revolve around a word that artist considers to be integral to what art and Brelby means to them.

If you would have asked me two years ago if I’d still be in Phoenix pursuing my degree and learning not only how to be a better actor but a well-rounded theatre artist and arts marketer I would have been like, “what.” Alas here we are. Brelby has provided me with more opportunities to learn and grow than I could have ever imagined.
Despite my choice to pursue a career in the arts, I’ve never seen myself as a highly creative person. Perhaps it has something to do with my upbringing or my severe lack of confidence (something I’m working on trying to overcome), but working at Brelby has made me feel like there is hope for me after all. I’ve never felt more inspired and able than I do at this theatre with these people.
I had a moment of realization while I was at the NAMP conference while watching a fire dancer at the Salt Lake City Library. Had I insisted on sticking firmly to the plan I set for myself, at the ripe old age of 17, I would never be here right now in Salt Lake City (a place I have never been before) experiencing this moment. I’m learning insane amounts in a short time and getting to surround myself with others who are in love with art. This opportunity and many others have been given to me by a bit of luck, great timing, and Brelby Theatre Company.
I no longer tell myself that I know what the future holds. I have rough outlines of what I want to happen but I’ve learned that nothing is set in stone and to accept opportunity full force when it presents itself. I never want to stop learning and I want to keep my Brelby family part of my life forever. My name may now be both in lights and on the silver screen, but the truest opportunities are still presented to me by Brelby. I hope that continues for a very long time.
