It’s become a tradition at Brelby to spend the month of November reflecting on our artform and how it impacts us through our annual Blogathon. This year, in honor of our 10th Season, our Blogathon participants will be sharing lists of 10 things that have impacted them, whether they be lessons or memories…or are looking ahead towards future goals.
Today’s blogger, Clayton Caufman, is a company member at Brelby. He’s a gifted actor, singer, musician, improviser and designer. He does it all.
Below, Clayton looks ahead with a list of 10 Artistic Goals he has for his future.
Hello there! I’m Clayton Caufman. I’m a Company member at Brelby, as well as a director of Results May Vary. I’m here to talk about some of my future artistic goals, 10 of them to be exact.
1)Ever since I was a child I have loved watching Stand-Up Comedy. There is something about standing on a stage and making a crowd of people laugh that fascinates me. Sometime within the next year I hope to put together a set to preform at an open mic.
2)For most of my life I have been acting and playing music, but recently that just hasn’t been enough. I want to pick up another artistic medium, I’m thinking abstract art or sculpting.
3)Within the last year I have been in two short films. I really enjoyed my experience on both shoots even though they were incredibly different. One was shot over the course of 3 weeks while the other was shot in 12 hours. I would love to do more film work in my lifetime
4)I have always been a bit of an audiophile and would consider myself a halfway decent sound engineer. I mainly record weird sounds and people speaking, but I want to broaden my knowledge. I would love to try and record more musicians.
5)For an artist I don’t see enough art, so I plan to change this. Weather it be going to museums, seeing plays, or going to concerts I’m going to see more art.
6)In my theatre career I have worn many hats. Ive acted, designed, directed, and stage managed. There is one thing I have yet to do and that is write and that’s because it terrifies me. I want to get over this fear and write something for the stage.
7)I love doing sound design, it has been my go to design position for a while now. I would love to explore another area of design. The one that immediately comes to mind is prop design. I think it would be an interesting challenge.
8)I have been playing bass for 10 years, guitar for 2 years, and ive been singing for as long as I can remember. I can also fumble my way around a saxophone and a drum set. I would love to become proficient in another instrument.
9)Speaking of instruments and music I would love to write a song. Ive written parts of a song; a verse here, a bridge there, but I have never written a complete song. How hard could it be? Spoiler alert for me its incredibly hard.
10)My last goal for this list is something that ive always wanted to do. As a kid I would watch cartoons and be completely unaware that real people spoke in those silly voices into a microphone. I eventually figured it out and it fascinated me. My life goal is to one day become a professional voice actor.
Well now you know a little bit about where I want to go with my artistic endeavors, and a little bit more about me. Thank you for reading!
