April is busy month at the Brelby Studio. We’re welcoming Spring with a full month of theatre in Historic Downtown Glendale.
The 3rd Annual Brelby Miscast Concert
Let me get right to the point…tonight we open the 3rd Annual Brelby Miscast Concert. It’s a production filled with artists performing roles that they wouldn’t traditionally be cast in, and it’s become a favorite tradition for many of our actors. We have a cast of 24, and they’re all stellar. Come out this weekend to catch one of three performances, and hear songs from Heathers, Grease, West Side Story, Matilda and more. Get your Tickets HERE.
The Brelby MainStage
Friday April 8th opens the next production to hit the Brelby MainStage Season, Meet the Dryers.
This production has been in development for nearly two years. It was initially conceived in one of my graduate courses at ASU, along with my good friends Ian Shelanskey and Jamie Arakas. I fleshed out the plot into full script along with my writing partners, Luke Gomez & Megan O’Connor, and our talented Brelby ensemble is breathing life into this quirky and sometimes foul-mouthed family. One of the most exciting things about this particular production is the technology. Ian has designed an app just for the show that will live stream the interactions between the characters cell phones up for the audience to see. It’s fascinating, fun, and something new and challenging that I think we can all relate to. Balancing social media interactions with the people right in front of us. #relevant
Production Intensive Showcase
John Perovich, Brian and I have been teaching some insanely talented folks in the Spring Production Intensive for the past several weeks. We’ve provided guidance to help them cultivate three wonderful original scenes, which will be open to the public for viewing at 5:30PM on Tuesday April 5th. (I directed an incredibly fascinating piece by Devon Mahon…so personal plug…come see our work!) The scripts are diverse and interesting, the actors are delightful, and the directors are insightful. Come see what the intensives are all about!
Brelby for Young Audiences
We’re also back with the first installment of the 2016 TYA (Theatre for Young Audiences) series, Kirt Shineman’s Sea Fairies. Our audiences young and old have been loving the adventure, the puppets, the performances. Don’t miss out!
Brelby’s resident improv team, Results May Vary performs five times throughout the month, bringing you affordable late night entertainment.
We’re so excited to be featuring the debut of our newest team members on April 21st at 7:30pm.
Not only will they be performing for the first time…but they’ll be earning the shirts on their back. Literally.
They’re going to be improving for tips to offset the costs of their team shirts, so bring some singles and help support the new blood!
