Shelby’s Pre-Show Checklist: August

Shelby's Preshow Checklist

Happy August, my dear readers. We’ve been working hard at the Brelby Playhouse this summer in preparation for our slated opening in September…and presenting some wonderful events until we complete the permit process with the City of Glendale.

11816996_10153119694843727_1088843529703205237_nAugust 1st at 7:00PM – First up? This month is kicking off with the annual ariZoni Awards of Theatre Excellence Reading of the Nominations. I’ve been honored to join the board for this organization, and am working together with former Brelby Collaborative Artist Rebecca Weinstein as the organization plans this year’s ceremony. All artists in our community are invited to join us for the ariZoni Reading of the Nominations on August 1st at 7pm at the Phoenix Center for the Arts, 3rd Street just south of McDowell. This is the first public sharing of who is up for an ariZoni award from the last season. Come on down, and then come to the after party held at the Phoenix Theater Art Bar just down the street (1st Street and McDowell) from 8:30-10:30. There will be happy hour pricing, an ariZoni signature cocktail, and the bistro will be open for food.

That’s right, it’s time for the annual Dog Days of Summer festival in downtown Glendale. This amazing event has booths, activities, and more…and hundreds of people bring their pups to socialize in Murphy Park. It’s an adorable and amazing event. We’ll be hosting our fair during the festivities, so bring your dog down to the event, and then stop on by to check out our incredible artists. (Dogs are welcome!)

goodguysAugust 12th @ 7:30PM – Opening Night of The Oz Chronicles – A cast of 27 talented performers. A creative and dedicated design team. A script that weaves together characters from the original Oz series in a gritty epic inspired by Game of Thrones? That’s right…The Oz Chronicles is preparing to open, and it’s going to be a spectacle to behold. This summer epic is performing on the beautiful proscenium at the Peoria Center for the Performing Arts, home to our friends at Theater Works.
It’s my first full length script to be produced, so I’m personally inviting you to come and see the magic that this team is creating. I’ve been waiting to create a piece about this book series for years, and this was the perfect team to see that dream realized. Get your tickets now, because this one only runs from August 12-21st.

August 21st – Deadline for 2017 Applications – We’re officially accepting applications from prospective designers, directors and stage managers for our 9th season. You can find details here. You can ask questions by emailing submissionsonly@brelby.com. Join us!

Family_Game_Night_TipsAugust 27th from 4pm-10pm – August Game Night – This is an event that we’re bringing back after several years on hiatus. Come to the Brelby Playhouse for a day filled with gaming. Tabletop, board games, various video game systems, a laser maze…it’s going to be a blast. Cover charge is $5, and you can enter various tournaments to win prizes. Stay tuned for more details to come!

Thanks for reading. We have plenty of fun opportunities for you to beat the heat with us in our beautiful new venue. #comedowntothetown
