November 2019 Blogathon: Cameron Bloom

It is Brelby tradition to dedicate the month of November to giving a platform for our artists to share their stories. This month our annual Blogathon theme returns to its roots with a visit back to the topic of “My Brelby Story.” We’ve grown a great deal over the past few years, and many of our original bloggers have moved on to new careers, new lives, new challenges, and new cities. Enjoy this year’s series with 30 Days of Blogs.

I found Brelby years ago when friends of mine were in shows like She Kills Monsters, and Fangirl. I loved the environment and atmosphere the theatre provided but never buckled down to audition… until I heard the end of their 2019 season was going to feature Evil Dead.

I knew I just had to be apart of that show in some way, but I felt I’d need to get my foot in the door. And I’d been away from theatre for almost 4 years at the time and needed to tap into my passion again. My first role at Brelby was during their Night of Shorts in January 2019 where I played the rough and rugged (and not too bright) time traveling outlaw Kenny the Kid and from that I learned just how fun and exciting of an environment Brian and Shelby had created. I knew I wanted to be a part of this family.

But it took me some time to jump in, and it wasn’t until May when I decided to audition for Alice’s Canvas, taking on the role of calm and cool Kent as well as the gallant and noble White Knight. From there I stepped into the role I couldn’t be more proud of to bring to life in my own way, Ashley Joanna Williams. The most fun and exciting time I’ve ever had in a theatre experience.

Since then I’ve been doing everything I can to stay active and involved, learning all I can from these amazingly talented and gifted people. But I can’t forget about what kept me at Brelby in between Night of Shorts and Alice’s Canvas, I had the amazing pleasure of becoming a member of Results May Vary, an improv team filled with people I’m proud to call friends. Clayton and Ben have taught me so much simply from their presence on stage and I love every second I have with this fantastic team. I also can’t thank Brian and Shelby enough for the opportunities I’ve been given and just how welcoming they’ve been to my…exciting personality, I look forward to whatever the future holds with this incredible theatre.
