**The Night of Shorts**
(A Studio Series Production)

Featuring short plays by Ilana Lydia, Jamie Maletz, Jessie Tully & Mia Passarella, Jaren Navenma, Chelsea Frandsen, and Allison Bauer

Featuring the work of seven playwrights, each artists will be given the prompt of imagine, create, or inspire, to create an original short play.

Peter and the Starcatcher

A young orphan and his mates are shipped off from Victorian England to a distant island ruled by the evil King Zarboff. They know nothing of the mysterious trunk in the captain’s cabin, containing a precious, otherworldly cargo. At sea, the boys are discovered by a precocious young girl named Molly,  a Starcatcher-in-training, who realizes that the trunk’s precious cargo is starstuff, a celestial substance so powerful it must never fall into the wrong hands. When the ship is taken over by pirates – led by the fearsome Black Stache, a villain determined to claim the trunk and its treasure for his own – the journey quickly becomes a thrilling adventure.

**Blacklisters**

In a totalitarian state in the unknown future, most art and literature has been censored and archived by the aptly named Blacklisters. This strange world becomes stranger on the day a team of low level Blacklisters are assigned to archive a new kind of art: live humans.

An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home life, the tweens spell their way through a series of [potentially made-up] words hoping to never hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming “ding” of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box.

**Space Junk**
(A Studio Series Production)

Luke is having a bit of a crisis. He just broke up with his girlfriend, Jenny. This should be seen as a good thing until Luke gets cold feet. He is so scared of being alone, he’s called Jenny and decided to try to work things out. He’s got one night to fix this and have a romantic dinner to get his love life back on track. However, there is one problem. A mysterious metal object has crashed through his roof burying itself into his sofa and almost setting the apartment on fire. To make matters worse, the object keeps beeping and making strange noises.

Now, with the help of his former best friend Kaz, Luke has to take care of the still smoldering couch, figure out what to do with this mystery object from space, fend off the pair of FBI agents who has just shown up to investigate his home, hold back his personal, warm feelings to his medical student neighbor, and find a clean shirt all so he can make it to dinner on time to save a relationship he isn’t even sure he wants to save after all.

The mother’s wishes are met with resistance when a mysterious merchant washes ashore. Love is in the air as each person struggles to listen to the love in their heart. unexpected is a comedy about curiosity, disobedience, honesty, and family—the one we have and the one we choose.

But when magic is involved, nothing is as straightforward as it may appear and Natty may not be prepared for the truth about her husband, their relationship, and herself.

But when Corporal Eddie Birdlace meets Rose, an awkward and idealistic waitress he enlists to win a cruel bet with his fellow recruits, she rewrites the rules of the game and teaches him the power of love and compassion.

**Whisper Sweetly**

Whisper Sweetly unveils the untold origin story of the importance behind one’s observing of Daylight Saving Time.  In a small village in a forest not far from the edge of town Abbott struggles to stay awake during the crucial hours of Daylight Saving. Anyone who drifts into a sleep risks the loss of their soul and body to those Catchers who feed off of dreams. It’s a tale of discovery, the sacrifice of loved ones, and bags upon bags of coffee.

**Depend on Me**

Synopsis: Monica just moved back to town after grad school, and has responded to an ad looking for a roommate. Celia is as much an introvert as Monica is a bubbly extrovert, but Monica’s charm leads them to create a friendship that is tested and strengthened and manipulated when death begins to surround Monica. This dark comedy explores the struggles and strains of conflicting personalities in a roommate, and friendship, and the dark depths people can plunge to in order to feel needed. What would you be willing to kill for?

A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Mischief meets merriment in this fresh reimagining of Shakespeare’s most popular romantic comedy. In just one night, four magical stories are cleverly woven together: the marriage of the Athenian duke to the Amazon queen; the battle of the king and queen of the fairies; the follies of four lovers in a forest; and the hilarious antics of amateur actors staging a play. Enter a vibrant world where fairies fly overhead, a donkey bursts into song, and love potion makes your perspective turn on a dime.

9-year old Alexander would rather play in his basement with his goldfish, Bubbles, than be anywhere near his neighbor Sheila Stone. All Sheila Stone likes to do is play on her iPad and remind him that his father is never coming back. When Alexander discovers that his beloved father’s sneakers are missing, he is sure Sheila is the thief. Then he meets Hoardace, a creature made of clothing and other basement belongings with an affinity for hoarding, who promises Alexander he can help find the missing sneakers. Eager for a friend, Alexander excitedly follows Hoardace to his underground hoarding world, where he quickly realizes Hoardace isn’t exactly who he said he was.

The latest project by the Brelby Writers group will be an adaptation of the classic HG Wells book. This show for young audiences will be an exciting and frantic romp about time travel, history and adventure.
